For the rest of this week, we will be focusing on diary entries where our aim is to write a diary entry from the point of view of one of the characters from The City of Ember.
First, we need to think about what makes a good diary entry and learn what features are used within diary writing.
TASK 1: READ THE DIARY ENTRY
Choose one of the diary entries below. Read it and think about what makes it a diary entry. How is this different to a story?
TASK 2: DIARY FEATURES
Now that you have read the diary and thought it's purpose, think about what features are used within a diary entry. If you can, print out the diary and annotate the features using different coloured pens.
Diaries are written in past tense so you may highlight all examples of 'past tense' in blue and show this in a key underneath.
See how many features you can find.
