Reading Expectations

Reading is crucial for children's progression in reading, writing, spelling and vocabulary. It is essential children are given ample opportunities to both read at home and develop a love of reading. It is strongly recommended every child reads at least 15 minutes a day. and their reading records are signed by an adult to show this has been done. Children should achieve a mixture of independent reading and reading with an adult. However, in Year 3 children will benefit from more support until they are fluent and confident readers.

In Year 3, children are expected to bring their books in everyday. Books will be changed Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.

Accelerated Reader

As a school we use Accelerated Reader to both engage the children and monitor their reading. They will take a Star test at the start of each half term. This assesses their reading level and reading range based on their responses to the questions. The reading range given to them then dictates the level of books they read in school. Every time they complete a book they take a quiz in class (10 questions) to see how well they understood the book.

MyOn will give you a whole e-book online reading platform that is easily accessed from home using your Accelerated Reader login.

Children will be able to take AR tests on these books to boost their points and word count.

As we get more familiar with MyOn, we will roll out some more of its functionality  with tasks and projects.
