Summer Term (Term 6)
This term, through using the topic, the children will be writing recounts of events and journeys. They will learn about Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins being the first people to travel to the moon. They will also learn about the astronaut Tim Peake and what it is like to live on the ISS. The children will be using the book 'Whatever Next' to help them plan their own imaginative recounts of a journey to the moon. In science the children will be carrying on their topic of plants as well as learning the order and sizes of the planets. In geography the children will be identifying hot and cold places. They will be using pictures of the world from space to help them.
During the topic the children will have the opportunity to know that Jesus showed his great power when he calmed the storm and know that we can ask Jesus to help us when we are afraid. They will also have the opportunity to know that Jesus responded to the faith of the blind man with compassion and think of ways that we can trust Jesus when we are in need. Throughout the topic the children will explore the reasons people act and reflect on how compassion motivates many to act for the good of others.

Phonics Phase 3 Tricky words to read and spell
Every Year One child in England has to sit a Phonic Screening Check in June set by the Department for Education. The phonics screening check is a quick and easy check of your child’s phonics knowledge. It helps us confirm whether your child has made the expected progress. Your child will have to read 40 words aloud, 20 of these will be nonsense words and your child will have to use him/her phonics knowledge to help him/her decode the word.
