Online Safety

Online safety is a shared responsibility between parents and schools. At St Teresa's Catholic Primary, we support families to help children develop safe, respectful and responsible habits when using the internet, devices and apps. This includes understanding that what children do online can have real-life consequences, and that good online behaviour reflects our values of kindness, respect and honesty.

For primary-age children, it is important to set clear boundaries and keep communication open. Agree simple rules together, such as using devices in shared spaces, not sharing personal information, and telling a trusted adult immediately if something makes them feel worried, confused or pressured. Regular check-ins help you understand what they are using and who they may be interacting with, while also building confidence to speak up.

Practical steps can make a big difference. Use parental controls where available, ensure privacy settings are set appropriately, and encourage children to think before they click, post or message. Teach them to recognise trustworthy information, avoid contacting strangers, and understand that online content can be incomplete or misleading. If you ever notice concerning messages, images or behaviour, act promptly by saving evidence, reporting through the relevant platform and speaking with school staff so we can support you and your child.
