Term 4 Week 3

As part of the Fireflies Lentern fundraising event it would be lovely if you could design and make a poster to be displayed around school to inform others about our class cake sale after school on Tuesday 26th March in the school hall.

Term 3 Week 2&3

During ICT this term we have been learning what an algorithm is.  Your child may wish to continue looking at how computer programs such as “google quick, draw!” Uses algorithms to guess their drawings.  They may wish to continue investigating algorithms in action by playing the game “Google-coding for carrots”.

Term 3 Week1

In science this week we have been looking at plants and identifying their features.  Today we have set up a class enquiry to see if plants need light to grow.  We have potted a bean seed.  Half the class will place their bean seed somewhere where it will gain sunlight.  Half the class will place their bean somewhere where it will gain no sunlight.  Everyone will care for their plant in the same way ensuring the soil is moist with water.  Please can your child complete the recording chart on a weekly basis.

Term 2 Week 5

This week I thought it would be nice to include everyone in our science lesson.  You have a challenge to make your own kite.  Please can you bring your kites into school on Monday 11th December for our science lesson ‘Let’s go fly a kite’.

Term 2 Week 4

We have been learning how to subtract two numbers when an exchange is needed.  I have included an example to show you how to use the place value chart to help us solve the number sentences.  For every question I would like the answer to be represented pictorially with a place value chart.

Term 2 Week 3

This week we have been looking at addition of two 2-digit numbers (across the 10).  I have included an example to help you understand how in year 2 we use a place value chart to help us solve the number sentences.  The place value chart not only helps the children to show their understanding but also in the SATs they will gain marks for their pictorial representations.

Term 2 Week 2

In science this week we have been identifying items which are metals and describing the properties of the metal items.  Can you identify items around your house which are metal and describe the properties?  Can you use some of the vocabulary we learnt this week to help you such as flexible, rigid, dull, shiny, strong?

Term 2 Week 1

In geography this term we begin learning about the seven continents of the world.  If your child has visited a different country during half term please could you send in a photograph or postcard from the country visited.  On the back of the photo please write your child’s name and country visited.  We are creating a class “Where in the world?” display and I  would like this to be an on going interactive display throughout the year to help with the whole class learning.

During ICT this week we have been familiarising ourselves with the qwerty keyboard.  We have begun learning how to touch type. You may wish to continue developing this skill at home by logging into www.typingclub.com.
