Learning Showcase
Term 1
In RE we learnt about creation. We learnt that God creates by wisdom and love and that God upholds and sustains creation.
In English we wrote a narrative that focused on the description of settings and atmosphere based on the picture book “Little Cotton Rock.” We also wrote a biography based on the book “Counting on Katherine” which tells the story of Katherine Johnson, the pathbreaking Black mathematician whose skills saved NASA's Apollo missions.
In maths, we were solidifying our knowledge, understanding and application of place value and the principles of addition and subtraction.
In Computing, we learnt about Computing systems and networks: Search engines, how search engines work and we developed our searching skills to find relevant and accurate information online.
In PSHE, we heard and experienced the Gospel story of Jesus calming the storm. The story was be repeated in various ways, and through times of discussion, imaginative reflection and creative response, children learnt that they are created by God who cares for us and wants us to put our faith in Him. We also created a reflective display with our special guest ScribeYak, where we can share and discuss our aspirations for the year.
In Art, we developed size, scale, depth and tone and studied tones using a light source, while learning about Banksy.
In History we began our topic about the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor.
Term 2
In RE, we learnt about God’s Covenants. We learnt that through his covenants, God chooses us to be his people.
In English, we wrote a persuasive letter to NASA. We read “Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover” to inspire a rover of our own and convince the engineers at NASA to send it up to join Curiosity. We also wrote a balanced argument where we learnt to write in an unbiased way with evidence.
In Maths, we learnt about the four operations and an introduction to fractions.
In Science, we are exploring Space! “How have ideas about the Solar System changed over time?”
We have been learning by - Identifying scientific evidence that has been used to support or refute ideas or arguments. - Reporting on findings from enquiries, including oral and written explanations, displays or presentations of results and conclusions. - Reporting and presenting findings from enquiries, including conclusions, causal relationships and explanations of and a degree of trust in results, in oral and written forms such as displays and other presentations.
In Computing, we are learning about Programming music. We will be using block coding in scratch to plan, and compose music for a film.
In PSHE, were listening to and experiencing the covenants God made with the prophets, we will be reflecting on the commandments and how relevant they are in our lives today.
In art, we will focus on understanding retrofuturism, developing skills in evaluating images and creating art through various drawing processes, including collagraph printmaking. It emphasises the development of pupils' independent artistic skills and their ability to generate, test, and refine ideas in their sketchbooks, leading to a final piece of artwork.
