Modern Foreign Languages (French) Intent
The learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for pupils. They develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. They develop linguistic competence, extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences and similarities between English and the language being studied. Learning another language raises awareness of our multilingual and multicultural world, giving pupils an insight into their own culture and that of others.
At St. Teresa’s, we have chosen to concentrate on the teaching of French, given our proximity to France and the language skills of our staff.
