Term 3
The Fireflies have had another fantastic term and have been working hard across the curriculum – well done!
In Science, we have been exploring different types of soil, focusing on clay, peat-free, and nutrient-rich soils. We investigated their unique properties and how they impact plant growth. The children enjoyed examining the different textures as well as looking at the physical differences. When put through a sieve, the soils behaved differently this helped the children understand how soil texture affects drainage and plant growth.
In Maths, we have been developing our multiplication and division skills, as well as learning about measurements, including lengths in meters, centimeters, and millimeters. We practiced converting between these units and solved real-life problems to understand their practical applications.
In English, we focused on persuasive writing and storytelling. The children wrote compelling pieces persuading people to visit Ashford, using persuasive language and key places to visit which supported their arguments - Flipout was a key point for most children! They also wrote fantastic stories about Romulus and Remus, bringing the legendary tale to life with vivid descriptions and exciting narratives.
The Fireflies had an amazing DT day, designing and creating toys that featured pneumatics. They made thoughtful design choices and showed great adaptability as they built and modified their creations. The finished products were inventive and impressive, and the children were justifiably proud of their hard work.
In History, we delved into the fascinating world of the Romans. We explored their timeline, learned about their invasion of Britain, and discussed their lasting impact on England today. The children were particularly interested in how Roman innovations still influence our lives, from roads to our plumbing.
Well done Fireflies for another brilliant term of learning.
